The George Floyd Justice in Policing Act
January 12, 2023
The George Floyd Justice in Policing Act passed the U.S. House on Wednesday, and now moves to the Senate, where it faces a tougher road to becoming law. Howard Henderson, a professor at Texas Southern University, joined LX News to make a case for why a national standard for policing is needed.
"This is groundbreaking legislation should now have a more accepting senate. This bill will ban chokeholds and qualified immunity, which we know we need," CJR Director Howard Henderson NBC LX. "But more importantly, this bill will create a national database of police encounters, which is long overdue and should allow for more accountability."
