No Research Supports Atlanta's Curfew

Dr. Howard Henderson, Founding Director of the Center for Justice Research at Texas Southern University, weighs in on Atlanta, Georgia's, Lenox Square Mall's new organizational policy, requiring anyone under the age of 18 years of age, to be accompanied by an adult 21 years or older after 3 pm.

Dr. Henderson says, "We have not seen a reduction in crime with the use of curfews around the country. The academic literature suggests this type of programming does not work. At best, these types of policies temporarily move crime from one area to another.
It damages already strained relationships between the police and the community. Key stakeholders should focus on the root causes of crime and this will address the bigger issues at play."
